DescriptionTyped letter forwarded to select individuals identified for their outstanding surfboard riding ability and good sportsmanship, inviting them to become members of the Moffateers (Surf Board Riders Club). Letter signed by Ben Bendall who formed the Moffateers in 1966 and was both the Club's President and Public Relations Officer. Charles Ben (Pa) Bendall and his wife Marjory (Ma) settled in Caloundra in the 1950’s. They became the 'mother & father' of surfing on the Sunshine Coast, with Ben Bendall recognised as the world’s oldest competitive surfboarder. He represented Queensland in the National Surf Riding Championships in Sydney, entered the Australian Open surfing contest at the age of 61 and established the International Moffateers Club, which from 1966 onwards, held annual Moffateers contests in aid of the Caloundra Ambulance. In 1974 the inaugural ‘Pa’ Bendall Memorial Surfing Contest was organised at Moffat Beach, Caloundra, as a mark of respect for Ben (Pa) Bendall who died in 1973. It is the second oldest surfing contest in Australia.
