DescriptionKawana Shoppingtown, the Sunshine Coast’s first shopping centre, was originally launched as ‘Kern Shopping Town’. It was built by Kern Konstruction on the corner of Nicklin Way and Point Cartwright Drive, Buddina. Construction commenced in late 1978 at an estimated building cost of $10.5 million. The centre was officially opened by the then Premier of Queensland, Hon. Joh Bjelke-Petersen and at the time the centre had more than 40 retailers. It has since grown to include more than 160 stores.
