DescriptionTaken on Maroochydore Beach showing Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club members Colin Lister and Grahame Bruce (centre) with the Club reel. The Margaret Marr Memorial Home for Boys was operated by the Methodist Church of Australasia in Wynnum (1924-1973). The Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club had began hosting orphaned children during the holidays in 1954 and continued the scheme for the next fifteen years. The children came from various Homes including St. Vincent's Home, Nudgee and the Salvation Army Home in Toowoomba. The boys (pictured) from the Margaret Marr Memorial Home were accommodated at the Surf Club while the sisters of some of the boys were billeted in private residences throughout the district. The scheme was well supported by the community, with entertainment being provided by various local organizations, foodstuffs donated by Maroochydore business houses and by farms in Buderim.
